Target audience

This program was developed for physicians, nurses and all other licensed health professionals in both the clinical and community setting who are included in this mandate.

Educational goal

This course will provide the information and documentation needed to fulfill licensure requirements as mandated by NYS Department of Health and Education.

Learning objectives

After participating in this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe their professional responsibility of adhering to scientifically accepted infection prevention/control measures and consequence for non-adherence (professional misconduct).
  2. Summarize pathogen transmission in various health care settings and methods to prevent/control transmission of pathogens that decrease the risk of infection.
  3. Recognize, manage, and report suspected/confirmed infectious disease event and/or outbreaks, including events related to biological agents.
  4. Use resource links for infection prevention/control information, including practices for special settings.

Joint accreditation statement

In support of improving patient care, Northwell Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team.

Credit designations

Physicians: Northwell Health designates this internet enduring material activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category I credits.TM Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: Northwell Health designates this internet enduring material activity for 2.5 ANCC contact hours.

Maintenance of certification (MOC):

American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) MOC part 2 points

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 2.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to the ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) MOC part 2 points

Successful completion of the CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn 2.5 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

American Board of Surgery Continuous Certification (ABS CC)

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirement(s) of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification (ABS CC) program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.

Refund policy

It is the policy of Northwell Health’s Office of Continuing Medical Education to issue a full refund to any users who encounter technical difficulty in the use of the program that cannot be resolved by the program’s support desk and that prevents the user from completing the program and earning their certificate of completion. Program support is available by clicking the help button on the program or by sending an email to [email protected]. This refund offering is available for up to 30 days after purchase. Refunds are not available after 30 days.
