Pediatric Gastroenterology, Liver Disease & Nutrition

The pediatric gastroenterology, liver disease & nutrition fellowship program at Cohen Children's Medical Center is a three-year, fully accredited ACGME fellowship training program. Multiple pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition attending physicians provide fellows with the clinical, didactic and research guidance necessary for comprehensive training in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. The program provides a progressive educational experience that includes development of procedural skills, responsibility for patient care and participation in research.

During clinical training, time is spent learning the pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal disease as well as nutritional diagnosis and therapy. In addition, fellows develop expertise as an endoscopist. During the research-training component, fellows develop a protocol, perform the necessary experiments and tabulate and interpret the collected data. Faculty works with trainees to assist in the completion of scholarly activity training requirements. We offer a weekly clinical case conference, educational conference and pathology conference, as well as a CME-approved weekly pediatric gastroenterology grand rounds program. A monthly journal club and our many multidisciplinary conferences are also part of the educational experience. 

The program educates trainees both in the application of clinical gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition as well as clinical and/or basic science research. Our goal is to develop a well rounded pediatric gastroenterologist who will be an excellent diagnostician and a superb endoscopist, with a strong commitment toward education and research.
