Ophthalmology

Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital (MEETH) has a long history of education the finest physicians in the areas of ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery. At the ground level, MEETH as added rotations for Northwell Health ophthalmology residents in ophthalmic sub-specialties throughout their training and offers rotations for fourth year medical students through the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, allowing students from all parts of the country to learn at the MEETH site. This educational mission continues in the Department of Ophthalmology which currently offers one to two year fellowships post residency in cornea / anterior segment, retina, and glaucoma. This is a time where guided by multiple mentors, ophthalmologists may further specialize their skills and clinical acumen in their chosen field. Combined fellowships in oculoplastics with NYU and Columbia are also supported by MEETH. MEETH’s world-class reputation also attracts many ophthalmologists internationally from the medical school student level to practicing attending who want to observe MEETH faculty to improve and implement new skills in their own countries. Another aspect to the education mission is to offer medical education in two arenas, for the community and physicians. MEETH sponsored screenings and meetings including local to international speakers are included in furthering the teaching and learning culture at MEETH. The joy and benefits of collaboration that come through the education process continue to set MEETH apart as an institution of higher learning and excellence.
