Continuing medical education
The goal of the psychiatry research department is to understand the causes of mental disorders and to learn how to prevent and treat mental illness. The department uses innovative techniques to study clinical presentation, brain functioning and genetic contributions in mental illness.
Our programs study:
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Depression
- Schizophrenia
Our programs include:
- The Recognition and Prevention (RAP) Program, which studies young people at risk for mental illness with the goal of preventing the development of mental illness.
- The First Episode Program, which works with people experiencing the early stages of psychosis.
- Programs aimed at understanding the value of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in the treatment of depression, psychosis and dementia.
- The Program for Intervention and Services Research, which aims to better the treatment and outcome of people with chronic mental illnesses.

Continuing Medical Education
Zucker Hillside Hospital is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers. We're also recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board of Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed mental health counselors.
Throughout the year, Zucker Hillside Hospital offers professional education programs for social workers and other mental health professionals.

Inpatient ECT Referral Form
Please attach the documents below to the Inpatient ECT Referral form and fax to (718) 343-0441:
- Admission psychiatric assessment
- Last three psychiatric progress notes
- Most recent history and physical exam, CBC, BMP, EKG and pregnancy test (females, ages 12-55)
- If patient is an appropriate transfer for inpatient ECT, we will fax the referring hospital a consent form to be signed by the patient and faxed back to us before accepting the patient
